What I'm seeing is that when I click on the "Recording" tab, all of myrecord devices are opened (and they stay open). This doesn't happen on the"Playback" tab. This one I can definitely reproduce. You may remember that last week I complained that I couldn't replace my GFX APO even if I stopped the two audio services because the DLL was still open. Well, this issue is the reason why it was still open.
I suspect the sound control panel is opening the recording devices to display its peak meters, although it does this even if the endpoints support hardware meters. I've noticed if I have any input devices already open in exclusive mode, the recording peak meters don't show.
I've also noticed Server 2008 doesn't have peak meters on the control panel. It'll be interesting to see if it still opens all the recording devices or not - I must try that when I have a free moment.
I haven't seen the issue with the audio formats, but that's not something I would have noticed. I will look for this next time.
Likewise I haven't observed any problems with disappearing 24-bit formats.Jeff
