Different people have different preferences and different ways they want
to learn. However, I believe that the Windows audacity guide, though a
useful resource, is not good for a lot of beginners or rather new users,
perhaps not good for most such users. by all means, look at it now if you
wish but also please seriously consider listening to enough of my
presentation so that you know if you want to use it.

I did a presentation for Accessible World awhile ago which is a tutorial,
which I believe is much better suited for most beginning and rather new
users. It deals with both audacity and Mp3 Direct Cut. You can download
it here:

I made an error in the presentation. I stated that you had to save a
recording before editing it. that is not the case. In much earlier
versions of audacity, I'm not sure if it was but in current and older beta
versions, it is not the case. You can edit without saving the file.
