Hi Michelle
You toldd that you use Jaws, so you could try the Jaws script for Audacity written by Gary Campbell and me at https://dangmanhcuong.googlecode.com/files/Jaws%20Script%20for%20Audacity%20V2.0.exe
This makes Jaws more friendly with the interface of Audacity
Happy new year.

Different people have different preferences and different ways they want to
learn. However, I believe that the Windows audacity guide, though a useful
resource, is not good for a lot of beginners or rather new users, perhaps
not good for most such users. by all means, look at it now if you wish but
also please seriously consider listening to enough of my presentation so
that you know if you want to use it.

I did a presentation for Accessible World awhile ago which is a tutorial,
which I believe is much better suited for most beginning and rather new
users. It deals with both audacity and Mp3 Direct Cut. You can download it
here:

I made an error in the presentation. I stated that you had to save a
recording before editing it. that is not the case. In much earlier
versions of audacity, I'm not sure if it was but in current and older beta
versions, it is not the case. You can edit without saving the file.

Hi Gale

I'm using windows 7 with JAWS 14. I think really the problem I'm
having is that I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I'd selected some
audio to edit but then the file stopped playing altogether.

Thanks so much for this link. I'll do a little on this each day and
see how I go. You are all so very helpful.

Michelle

Hello Michelle

Have you read David's JAWS guide to Audacity:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.0.5-Guide.html ?

What version of Windows or Mac OS X you are using? What screen reader?
What
specifics are you having a problem with?

My name is Michelle and I'm a new Audacity user living in Canada. I'm
really enjoying the program but I have a couple of questions.

Can anyone suggest a good place to start when it comes to learning
about editing? I've read the help manuals and so on but I'm having
some difficulty with things I really probably shouldn't be and it's
all very new to me. My goal is to put some of the little things I
recorded on my cassette tapes onto computer so that I can keep them.
They are things like my Grandparent's voices and so on so I really do
want this to happen. It's next year's Christmas gift for my sister.

Any help would be very much appreciated. LOL, I'm feeling like the
one who doesn't know much here so it's a wonderful thing to have this
list to
learn.

Michelle
