Hi Manoj

You may be a candidate for my audio intro to Audacity tutorial.  You can
download it from https://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/v56cn4.  It runs for about 16 ;
minutes.  I start with some basic editing, which you may well find useful.  The
section on adjusting level starts at 13 minutes 56 seconds.

The tutorial deals with a single track.  Because you have two tracks, one with
the music and one with your vocals, it is important that the music track is not
selected and the vocal track is selected.  Use up and down arrows to move
between the tracks.  Pressing Enter will toggle the selected and unselected
state of the track.

Andrew

Hi Ted, Andrew and others,
The recording finally worked perfectly. Thank you so much for all your valuable
suggestions. Now my next question is how can I increase the volume of my vocals
alone?

Hi Manoj

You are over-thinking the process.  As Ted said, pressing spacebar
will stop.  That is, it will stop both the karaoke track and the track
onto which you are recording.  Do it like this:
1. Go to the point in the karaoke track a little before you want to
start singing.
2.  Press shift-r.  That will start recording on a new track while
playing the karaoke track.
3.  At the relevant time, start singing.
4. When you have finished singing, press spacebar to stop recording.
You can then adjust levels and whatever else you want to do to the
recording of your voice.

Hi Ted,
For some reason, when I press space, my recording also stops and when
I press space again that is when the karaoke track begins playing.

Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion. I followed all the steps that you suggested.
So there is a bit of music at the beginning and then I have to start
singing. So I press Shift plus R to start a new recording, but when I
press space to play the karaoke track, the recording stops.
Could you tell me what am I doing wrong?

pressing Alt+N, go into the transport submenu and make sure overdub
is on.  The final step is to record a new track by pressing shift+R
and save the file.  Hope it helps!

Hi,
How can we record vocals over a karaoke track in audacity?
