Thanks Tony,
    I downloaded Switch and extracted the audio from my video. I now have it in 
audacity and want to remove the static.
    How do I highlight the portion of the audio to use as my sample of what I 
want to delete?

  I'm not sure about doing it with Audacity, but I use a program call Switch 
from NCH Software to extract audio from video files. This assumes that the 
movies are already encoded in a digital format. You can find Switch at 
http://www.nch.com.au.

  Is it possible to extract audio from a video file with audacity beta using 
Windows Vista?

      Is there an audio extractor that works with Jaws?

      I have home videos with terrible static that I would like to clean.
