Hi Orlando,
The Home shortcut sets the cursor at time zero, and End sets the cursor at
the end of the audio in all the tracks.
If you have a single track, the audio will normally start at time zero, and
in this case the results of pressing j or k will be the same as Home or
End. Assuming of course that the track is selected. But if the audio in the
track is time shifted so that the audio does not start at zero, the the
results of pressing j and Home will be different.
The size of the short and long periods which the shortcuts period/comma and
shift + period/comma move the cursor share the settings for the short and
long periods for the seek times in the playback category of preferences.

If I understand you correctly, this applies to multitrack scenarios
where the tracks are of different lengths and we want to go the
beginning or end of the longest tracks. But if there is only one
imported file on a single track, does that mean that the home/end or
J/K methods of navigating to track beginnings and ends are equivalent?

Where is this default distance for comma and period set? I haven't
found anything in Preferences.
