Cannot imagine what is taking them so long in changing so that page numbers are a requirment. On the other hand, we had talked about getting rid of .txt files for over eighteen months before they finally were banned. I guess these things take a long long time to resolve somehow. I too think page numbers ought to be a firm r4equirement. I also ask that people scanning books check for 1 instad of I which is a common error and terribly annoying to the end user. If you do a find for "1 have" and "1 am" you can be pretty sure of catching such a tendency.

Dear Lisa and Bookshare Friends,

Lisa, just a word in support of your preference to have accurate page numbers in books for Bookshare. I hope someday the lowest requirements for submissions and validations will be upgraded. Page numbers are an integral element of the overall integrity of a book. Our reading styles vary, but in my case, I've always appreciated knowing the print page numbers.

So, to those of you who include, format and protect them, my sincere thanks.

Always with love,

Lissi

Hi, Monica and all.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I guess I was surprised to see a book labeled BSO that didn't have the page numbers. I understand that they're not required by Bookshare, but they are nice to have even if the book isn't being used for anything academic.

I did know that there is an automated process to repaginate books. I usually use the HTML copy to do my reading, so having the exact page numbers isn't that big of a deal to me.

Thanks again.

Lisa

Lisa, since page numbers are not a requirement for submission, I think the book should be accepted. Page breaks are required, but page numbers are not. By the way, did you know that the Bookshare tools will number the pages? It won't be exact since there's probably a few pages of introductory matter in the front, but many of the Bookshare books have somewhat messed up page numbers anyhow. I'd rather have clean text in a book than messier text with page numbers. The version on Bookshare is pretty messy, so this could be an improvement.
