Oh, thanks for that lovely answer. I happen to have Kurzweil 11 so I'll stick with that. Can anyone tell me if openbook eight produces better scans than Kurzweil 11? In theory it would, because it has the newer recognition engines but in my very limited experience Kurzweil is better even though it is behind in this area.

Hi, Julia. Chela is right. Kurzweil can automatically detect text on various backgrounds now. That's a nice improvement in the FineReader engine in Kurzweil 11. Kurzweil is steadily improving their basic scanning features, and I really like their forms recognition feature. So I don't think you'll gain anything by rolling back to an earlier version. Having said that, we have some volunteers producing beautiful scans using Kurzweil 8 and 9. So if you don't have Kurzweil 11, there are people making older software work very nicely. Two of our most prolific volunteers have been using Kurzweil 9, and their scans are nearly perfect. -- Monica Willyard Visit my blog at http://www.scannersguild.com To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxput the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
