-I really enjoyed the discussion and the various
points of view. As I read the various posts my
opinions about free access and non-free went vback and
forth, but I think you all made excellent pints and
parallels with libraries vs bookstores. I volunteer in
a used-book store in our library; we received *lots*
of books that people have bought and are through with.
And lots of people, myself including, buy books there
and donate them back when we've finished. But the idea
of bookshare functioning as both a library and a
bookstore is a good one. Many of you have requested or
scanned older books that are no longer easily
available; fortunately, used book stores and libraries
have them, and member and non-member volunteeers seem
to come from so many different places and have access
to so many different libraries and other sources that
the books become available on bookshare. I, for one,
have discovered authors and books I never would have
known about if it weren't for bookshare requests.
