Hi Ann!

Yes, it's weird to have to turn the speech off, but, it makes sense in a way, since the Kindle automatically turns pages when it is on.

When you had training on the Kindle, was the tts turned on for the menus? If so, you could have selected a book from the menu buy hitting the home key if necessary to get into the menu, then hitting the up or down edge of the five-way to read the list of purchased books or book samples, then, when you get to the book you want to read, hit the center of the five-Way to start reading. At least, that's the way I do it with the Kindle 3G. I haven't really seen any of the other models, so I don't know how they work differently from the 3G model.

Hi all,

This really should be taken over to Bookshare Discuss, but the whole point of this discussion and the articles that were posted is that a machine that is designed for the general public shouldn't have to be a kluge. You shouldn't have to turn the speech off to go forward and then turn it on again to continue reading. That's a kluge. It should work seamlessly. If you once turn on the speech it should work in all instances for all commands and all operations. This Kluge is unacceptable, period!

I had the opportunity to use a Kindle to read an audio book. I could only stop it and start it. I couldn't navigate within the book I couldn't really switch to another book. Admittedly, I had about thirty minutes of training, but this shouldn't have to be like this.
