Hi Valerie and everyone!I have both Kindle PC and a Kindle, so I have been buying books since late last year. Bruce has a Kindle too, and he reads the books with TTS, since he has limited vision.
Yes, Valerie's right. The publisher decides whether the speech will be enabled or not.
It is stated upfront whether speech is enabled or not.I'll give an example of a book I recently read, though I didn't read this particular book on the Kindle, since I found it on BARD first.

I don't know the percentage of enabled vs. not enabled. Neither Bruce nor I can understand why a publisher would not want to enable the TTS and sell more books.

I think the TTS is still dependent on publisher releasing content for speech, but not sure what percentage is that is not allowing TTS. I also dont know if they state upfront whether TTS is not allwed or you find out after the book has been downloaded.Valerie Keep up with Nichole's recovery: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/nicholemaples From: Barbara B <scootergirlred@xxxxxxxxx> To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thu, September 29, 2011 12:36:46 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] OT Amazon KindlesFor those of you who are interested, I have discovered that the $99 and up kindles have the TTS and Zoom features.Barbara
