Usually, you can do control-s in the document and a dialog will pop up and ask
you if you really want to save and you say yes. Then protected mode is off.

Hi Marty,

What version of Office are you using?

I believe protected mode is a "feature" of Office 2010.

If that's the version you're using, you need to go into the Trust Center and
turn protected mode off.

I am only using Office 2007, so I can only get you to the Trust Center. 2007
doesn't have a protected mode setting that I can find.

Anyway:

1. press "alt+ f" to activate the Office Button.

2. Press the up arrow to find Options and press enter.

3. Press down arrow in the categories to find Trust Center.

4. Tab until you find Trust Center Settings and press enter.

I think there is a check box to turn off protected mode in these settings.

Good luck!

Deborah

    Hi Folks,

For some reason, when I open files from my e-mail or from the internet (like
from bookshare!) they are in âprotected modeâ in my MS Word program. This
means that I canât use my JAWS cursor, so I canât edit them. Itâs so
frustrating; I tried for about 2 hours last night to change it but no way! Can
anyone here tell me how to get my files open in another mode? Thanks so much!
Oh, this just started about a week or so ago. Grrrr! Thanks!

Marty
