It depends on what kinds of material you want to scan. If you intend doing standard mass market paperbacks, you will most likely be using two-page mode with the left and right sides of the book on the scanner bed at once across the top of the scanner. If you intend to do many hardback or trade paperback books, the only bookedge scanners available come from Plustek. Right now, I'm having computer problems and both my systems came from the local computer store. If I have to get a new system, I shouldn't buy from them. I know of people who have had problems with HP so I shouldn't buy from them. I know of people who have problems with Dell, and that means I shouldn't buy from them. Maybe I should buy an E-machine. <grin> ---- Original Message ----- From: jana Jackson To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 3:52 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Recommended scanners? Well, to each his own! It would be one thing if they had a staff, and you just happened to get a bad customer-service rep once in a while. Anyway, who we do business with and for what reasons is definitely a mater of preference... I'm entitled to my opinion! <Smile> Jana ----- Original Message ----- From: Gary Petraccaro To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 1:49 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Recommended scanners? Well, I don't know of too many people who had tech support problems with the Plustek OpticBook 3600. After that, however, I'd use whatever's current in the Epson Perfection line or check the refurb stock. Btw, if rudeness by any particular employee is going to be a reason never to do business with a manufacturer, we might as well go back to stone tablets. <grin> ----- Original Message ----- From: jana Jackson To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 12:55 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Recommended scanners? Hi, everyone! Looks like my scanner has died. I've been using an Epson Perfection 1660, and K1000 keeps saying that every page I scan is blank. I've tried several books with it, and I'm not seeing the light come on after the scan is done. Can anyone recommend a good replacement? Do the Epsons still work pretty well? If Laura Ann hadn't had so many horror stories with their tech support, I would consider the OpticBook. However, I have no intention of supporting a company with rude tech people... I deal with enough rudeness in my ministry work!! <LOL> Thanks!!
