Hi Deb,The Epson support site says straight out that they do not have a 64 bit driver for this specific scanner. The third-party software that's being talked about is software that Epson states may -- or may not -- run the scanner. The basic version of that software costs $80, with no guarantee that it will work. There is nothing that Kurzweil can do if there isn't a Windows 7 64 bit driver available from the manufacturer for the hardware.
I think, my opinion only here, smile, is that Tracy is on the right track. She's unfortunately going to have to buy a new scanner, or least a used scanner that has a solid driver for the Windows 7 64 bit system.

Hi Tracy, You might not need to give up yet in trying to get your old scanner to work. It isn't quite clear to me if you have actually spoken to a person at the scanner manufacturer. If you have not, I suggest you call them and talk to their tech support people. If their website states that your third-party software will work in your situation, then they will be obligated to help you get that to work properly. If that is what you have already done, you can try the same thing with both the software from the third party, and your Kurzweil tech support folks. As expensive as Kurzweil is, they particularly should be willing to help you make it work properly. This is likely to take a while, because you may have to wait for someone at each place you call. But, if you can make it work, then you at least won't have to buy a new scanner unless you just want to! Smile Best of luck! I looked up my model on the Epson site, and it specifically says they don't have a 64-bit driver for it, but I could use this 3rd-party software. But that's not a driver, and I don't know how to make it talk with K1000, and neither does my tech support crew. I own an Epson 44 Perfection that I bought when using XP. When I switched to Windows 7, I simply plugged in the Epson scanner and a page came up with a driver I could use. Someone helped me, so I can't be more specific. I saw a Xerox document scanner on Amazon for around $60, but have no idea if it's any good. I had no idea my good old Epson wouldn't work with my new machine, either. I'm quite annoyed. It never occured to me that it wouldn't. I was running it on my old Windows Vista machine before. But when I got my new laptop with Windows 7 64-bit, I installed the driver and it worked. But that scanner may be too expensive for you. If there is one, please point me to it. I recently bought a new PC, 64-bit, Windows 7. Dumb, huh? I have a perfectly good Epson 1650 scanner, but Epson doesn't have a 64-bit driver. They want to make me buy a new scanner. There is 3rd-party software that will drive my scanner in Windows7, but, when I start Kurzweil and hit "scan", it starts the 3rd party software, and nothing happens. I think K1000 and Vuescan don't talk to each other. If anyone knows how to make my current scanner work with my new machine, please share. If anyone knows a decent scanner that works with Windows7, please share. I don't need anything fancy. Thanks.
