Hi Misha,

If I understand your question right the answer is no. If there are only title 
and chapters plus body text then navigation will work as long as chapter 
heading font size is at least 2 points larger than body text and title is at 
least two points larger than chapter heading  font size (as long as the body 
text is 12
point or less.)

Scott,

Ok, just one more point I'd like clarified.  If a book only has title
and chapter, does the final navigation come out any different if we make
the chapter titles 18 or 16 or 14 point (as long as the body text is 12
point or less)?
