Maybe it could be put back on the download list and be revalidated by someone who would like to read it. I agree totally with you, Jill. The reason submitters aren't allowed to validate their own submissions is because it's too easy to "see" as correct what they expect to be correct. Even the best of us make mistakes. Like you, Ann, I usually read everything I validate--in almost 6 years I've not done that twice, I admit, but if anyone ever reads those books and finds problems I'm willing to correct them. grin. The book I'm doing now is near perfect; I took it at the submitter's request to put in footnote numbers, and it's not as interestingly written as I had hoped, but I am reading it and, though it seems so perfect that one might be tempted to just give it a quick spell-check if it weren't for the footnote problem, I've found only 2 or 3 scanning errors in 243 pages--nothing that would make it not excellent but why not have it as perfect as can be? Besides, as you point out, people are now getting paid good money for validating and should be willing to read for it. When newbies ask how to validate I just tell them to read the book and correct scanning errors as they do.
