Yes; most of the current generation workstation keyboards have pretty decent orchestral sounds, particularly when compared to what was typical, say, 10 years ago. However, the bar is much higher now. Most Hollywood films are scored with software now, and I bet that you couldn't even notice. Huge libraries from EWQL and others are used, and most of those composers use a master computer running a DAW (serving as a sequencer), with slave systems just running softsynths. Your total synth farm might consist of 5 machines in an average setup. This is needed to have enough processing power to completely mimic a full orchestral arrangement in real-time, with all sections, solo instruments, and all articulations of the above. The new libraries, under the control of a skilled composer/sequencer, sound absolutely as real as you'd want. Also, I play on a Roland AT-90 console organ at my church that has some halfway decent stuff in it as well. I'm extremely fortunate to have one of those puppies at home, thanks to the church and others; I received it as a gift for my tenure as Church Organist. Perhaps I should send some stuff along at some point so you can hear it. I agree with you that hardware synths aren't really adequate to get nice sounding orchestral sounds. PLEASE READ THIS FOOTER AT LEAST ONCE!
