I think you might be missing control R to make it actually turn automation
on Axel. Also I arrow up to arm for automation and enter on that, I find
that when I just hit control A to arm it, it doesn't work, as it is suppose
to, at least on my system. But after arrowing up to arm for automation, and
hitting enter, control R to record works for me. Hope this helps.
