The Mic questions is subjective, you can always try stuff like a Rhode nt1, the classic sm57, or any variation in between. For sound card/interface the options never end, it all depends how much you have to spend, what type of card you want (firewire, USB, PCI express), and of course the inputs and outs. I'd recommend PCI express for lower latency and high stability, specially if you plan to use alot of soft synths and effects; but of course that would require a desktop. If your laptop has firewire port, look there for some good options, (I wouldn't really trust a add-on firewire card, many are buggy on mobile chipsets). Your last option and most universal (no pun intended) is USB. For DAW, unless you really need portability I'd recommend a dedicated DAW/desktop. Tripple drive setup is a must if using alot of soft synths or big libraries. If you need a custom build machine, I too do custom builds, from basic home/office machines to daws, gaming beasts and servers, so feeel free to add me to the "builders to consider" list :) Contact me off-list if you'd like more info on the machines I build, current prices etc. Regards, D!J!X! _____ From: ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of josh stundon Sent: Friday, August 02, 2013 2:19 PM To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ddots-l] Computer and Audio interface/sound card for running sonar 8.5 producer Hi all, I'm planning on purchasing sonar 8.5 producer and cake talking over the next few weeks but I don't really know what would be the best computer for me to get. I have a laptop that has 8 gb of ram and an i7 processor, would this be sufficient to run sonar and cake talking? I've heard hat laptops are not the ideal solution to run daws but any advice on what computer I should get would be much appreciated as I'm trying to make a decision. Also what would be the best audio interface/sound card to get? I plan on mainly recording multiple vsts and singing as well. Also what would be the best imcrophone to get as well? Any help with this would be appreciated. Best regards, Josh
