I heard it, and it didn't sound that great to me. The sibilance processing
seemed bad. Kind of like the Motif's vocoder.

        Hey Bryan,

I agree... I use hardware rather than software for my talkbox sound!

Sorry, but I've never heard a vocoder plug in that sounds nearly as
good as
hardware, and I've heard at least half a dozen attempts. It isn't that
software couldn't do it, but, everyone that I've heard try so far,
doesn't
know what they're doing. In fact, most hardware vocoders are poor
quality.

You won't get a talkbox sound out of a plug in, or out of a hardware
effects
box. It is possible to model the resonances of your mouth and throat
with
software, but it isn't possible to just listen to you talk with a
microphone
and map those on to a sound accurately. When people attempt to do that,
it
is a vocoder, and, as you can hear, it doesn't sound the same.

Basically, you can't do this stuff with a computer. You need to buy
        equipment.

For a vocoder, if you want a bright shimmery sound, get an Electrix
Warp
Factory (no longer being made). If you want the classic robot sound,
then
you're out of luck. The only new stuff that does that is cheesy. You'll
need
to find something used, and it will probably be from about 25 years ago.

For talkboxes, there are models that combine with an amplifier, and
there
are all-in-one units. If you want the loud distorted talkbox sound
(Living
on a Prayer, Do You Feell Like I Do), then the Rocktron Banshee is a
self-contained device that works like a guitar pedal that will do this.
If
you want a soft talkbox sound (Roger Troutman, Stevie Wonder), then you
need
a Heil talkbox with a separate amp. You can use the Banshee to do both,
but
the Banshee is too high powered to do the soft stuff very well. It will
nearly vibrate your teeth out and blow your head off if you turn it up
far
        enough.

Vocal effects are a strong area of interest for me. I've tried
everything to
get good results with a computer and plug ins, but it just isn't
happening
yet. You still need hardware. That's why I still have a Banshee and a
        VoiceLive 2.

I already have a keyboard, I'm looking for a plugin.

        Hi.

If you have the cash and don't mind having a keyboard instead of a
plugin,
look on Ebay for the Roland VP-550.

Do a Google search like this...

        site:youtube.com roland VP-550

Just enter the above into the Google search and it'll only bring back
        Youtube results.

        Cheers
        Darren

        Hi, it's Annabelle.
I'm wondering, where can I find a vocoder like Sonovox? Is it available
in a
software version? What about the kind that sounds like the Talkbox?
