It uses the keys themselves to program. You just have to write down what each key does... It has 9 sliders, 9 assignable buttons, 8 nobs, and transport buttons. You can save presets or use factory made ones. Uses either USB or midi dim. You can use it with or without a computer, I use it as a secondary keyboard with my motif, for organs and such... You can get an external power supply and run it standalone.
