Have you tried looking for controller data on the midi track? Often standard midi files will have initialization messages at the beginning like volume, or controller 11 (expression. Check in the event view for that stuff and delete it. I bet it's expression since you notˆced a difference when you raised the volume. Also make sure that you are not in offset mode, which happens to me sometimes and really can get me tripped up.
