James,

You can't turn the voice guidance off on the Plextalk; and you wouldn't want to as there's no screen. It's definitely a unit designed for totally blind people. The voice guidance volume has a minimum setting so as not to lose it completely. This would be one situation where a sighted person wouldn't be able to help somebody out; ironic, huh?

There are ways to get around this little dilemma for sure; it's just a matter of what's best for a particular setup. I have a very basic 4-channel powered mixer that I use for gigs, and there aren't any mute switches. I have to turn things down when I need to access the player to get my songs up. Until something else comes along, the Plextalk is probably the best thing going. I think that Olympus still has some digital recorders that have decent voice guidance, but I don't know if they can be configured to keep the voice internal when you're using output jacks.

Cheers!

Mike

You could turn the voice guide off before connecting your plext talk to your PA system.
