Hi Kevin.
From a quality standpoint, I would go for a Sony PCM10 or PCMD50.
I have an R-09HR and honestly, once I got the menu options set how
I wanted, all I do is turn it on, press record, and press
play/pause to take it out of record pause mode. Monitoring through
earbuds.
