Hi, I use the Samsun EVO line for OS and programs ssd. The read and writes
are some what of an issue, but neglijable if the OS supports trim (which
most new ones do), and if you do some house keeping/caring to make sure you
don't mes things up; mainly disabling disc defrag on windows, swap,
hibernation and paging files, and not running scheduled backups but doing
them manually. Even with all this, on newer drives like the evo 840 and 850,
read and write lifetime is so high that it wouldn't impact too much on the
negative.

The Kingston SSD Now line is good too, and Crucial has good offerings as
well.

 

Are you using a regular sata drive? Or does that laptop also have an m.2
slot or MSata? If so you can get the best of both worlds, with an SSD on the
msata/m.2 slot and a 7200rpm drive on the regular bey!

Hi all!

 

Managed to get hold of a mid 2012 15 inch Mac Book Pro 2.7 GHz quad core.
Already ordered 16 GB of Kingston RAM for it and a black 7200 Western
Digital hard drive which unusually ships with a 5 year warranty.  Now
wondering if I should have gone solid state instead but not too sure which
drive to go for?  I know there were issues with read write cycles but I also
know that a lot of that has been sorted out.  Any feedback is greatly
appreciated!
