Hi Kylee,
It depends on whether or not your on-board sound card has just been disabled within your pc's control panel or from the bios. If it has been disabled from within control panel all you have to do is go to control panel, system, then go to the hardware tab and click on device manager. Have a look around using your arrow keys and you'll see your sound card there. Just hit the enable button. If it has been disabled at the bios then you will need sighted assistance to enable it again.
Hope this helps. Btw, the creative extigy is a reasonably good card but if you can enable your on-board sound card then you wont need it. Is that the card with the front loading break out box? I'm not sure it will cut the mustard with Sonar. I seem to remember asking a similar question a few years ago, hence the reason why I got an M-audio 44-10.
Take care. Jim McAuslan
Hi, Jim, John and Phil
Thanks for your responses.
Yes, I'm using Eloquence on my MAudio, as the Sound card on my PC's mother board was disabled. Not sure how to get that rectified or whether I should just get a cheap SB or something for Jaws.
But the mixer idea for listening to both sound cards from one source as expounded in the CT documentation sounds like a great idea. Now to find one with enough outs and ins.
BTW, work has given me a Creative Labs Extigy. Will that do? I don't suppose I'll be recording much at work, (we work in an open plan environment and only do post production in the studio). But I have Sonar for its multi-tracking so that I can do more of that side of things myself, being as Sadie is only useable by Jaws in a hack sort of way.
Of course, it would be great to have a whole setup dedicated to audio, and that may eventually be possible here at home, but not at all where I'm working. IT was hard enough to get the basics, even if much of the peripheral software was bought by the government.
Just some thoughts on which I'd appreciate any comment.
Cheers
Kylee

andHi Kylee,
I seem to remember that all that my brother did was to adjust recordingplayback levels and that was that. For your home system, I presume thatyouandwill be using a software synthesiser like eloquence? I have an external synth so I can get by with using only one sound card, however, I know that you can use two sound cards, one for jaws output and the other for Sonarthatct. If you have a reasonbly modern pc you'll have an on-board sound card which should be perfectly adequit for eloquence. Before you buy an M-audio card, check out some others. I've been toldtothe Edirol FA 101 fw is accessible for jaws users but, I had already purchased my M-audio and really couldn't justify a second expense.
I have a reasonably good little mixing desk made by Mackie, the 1202, I forget exactly how much it cost, round about 200 pounds stirling. It uses pots instead of faders, which I prefer.
Hope some of this helps
