I assume you ultimately bounce the softsynth tracks before exporting?

  No. freezing and bouncing are different.

    When you say "I don't even freeze a softsynth until I'm done, because I 
might decide to change an eq or effect on a particular instrument," are you 
using the term freeze synonymously with the bounce to track command?
