Sure you can do that. If you want a gradual accelerando, just set your from and thru points for the area you wnat the change to occur, then chooes "series of tempos" from the insert menu and set the starting tempo to the current tempo and the ending tempo to a higher value. Of course, you may need to do some experimentation until you get it right.
