A couple things I've discovered with my laptop: the s d f j k l keys don't work for 6-key entry, but the q w e o p [ DO. I can also get 6-key to work with the s d f j k l (especially when I want to lounge on the couch, am doing mostly formatting, and don't want to be bothered with a second keyboard) by not hitting all the keys at once. It's taken some practice, but hitting the keys very quickly one at a time (as if you were drumming your fingers) works well most of the time. Some symbols just won't work, like a "g" for some reason, so those I copy & paste. For anything needing much typing though, it's the second keyboard. Many laptop keyboards won't allow you to type 6 keys at the same time. If you have an external keyboard that works you can use that. It is 100% a hardware problem so installing Perky Duck or any other software won't fix it I'm afraid.
