Thank you for your input on TSVBI in the learning tables. I confirmed you are
correct!! I did not know this. The only things I need to watch out for are
the contractions that are no included in UEB….and that is much easier!

I could be wrong but I believe that BrailleFUNdamentals is the same as the
TSBVI Clusters listed under learning tables in DBT.
As soon as we receive the UEB version we will have it in DBT.

We use Braille Fundamentals and it has a course for lower elementary and upper
elementary. It seems like an excellent tool for teaching children. It is
currently not available as a Learning Table in Duxbury, and that is
unfortunate. Once resolved, it would be VERY helpful!
I’ve not used any of the other resources available for teaching braille.
Building on Patterns is used by several here in Kansas-USA, as well as one
called Braille To the Next Generation.
The drawback for Braille Fundamentals right now is it is not in UEB until
January 2019.

Dear List,
When I was a child, I learnt Braille Grade II through a series of exercises,
well designed for the small children. There were few signs introduced, a
wonderful story and questions to answer using the Braille contractions learnt.
The book was from APH.
Unfortunately, today, this book is no more available in the institute.
I guess you are right, the exercises provided in the UEB online course, the
Braille Primer are not meant for children. I wish there is a simplified book
that can be used for teaching the children.

As a blind child in a residential school, our teachers customized reading
lessons. We learned the contractions as appropriate words were introduced in
the English language, a second language for us, and these contractions
typically corresponded to our age and ability levels.
But these days, inclusive education is the trend, so customization becomes a
real challenge for the teacher of the blind. Isn’t it?
