I got the same result, also using 10.6 SR4, but I don't
understand why.  I didn't think the poetry code would negate
the indenting of the first line of the paragraph.  Am I
missing something here?

        Digging deeper, I think this is an issue a Code
"placement".
         
        If the ptys# code appears AFTER the opening <para.>
Style, the first line of the paragraph will NOT be indented.
         
        Whether placed before or after, the # will leave
that number of spaces before the second and subsequent lines
relative to the left margin of the document.
         
        (I hasten to add that my test was with 10.6 (SR4))
