[duxuser] Re: Pass-along Duxbury?

One can hardly blame Duxbury for protecting their income-stream and
intellectual property, hence David's argument is obviously valid and
correct.

Having said that, many software companies make "cut-down", less optioned
(read cheaper) versions of their flagship products.
I know many people who would like "something cheaper and not as complex
for my home computer" and would be quite willing to pay for same.
Considering the cost of R&D to do this though I suspect Duxbury wouldn't
be interested in this either.

There wouldn't be a few lonely old floppies endowed with a really early
version of DBT lost in a dark and dinghy corner of the Dux-warehouse
that could be sold cheap?

Duxbury are lucky they aren't producing a mass-used product or it would
almost certainly have been cracked by now <smile>.
It's sometimes a good idea to give people a less costly option, if all
companies had the same attitude as Duxbury there would be no second-hand
car market!

Better get opinions in soon people, I suspect this thread will be shut
down very quickly! A real hot potato.

Hello:

This is the problem with capitalism!

There are many other areas of endeavor when we deliberately refuse to
genuinely consider the less economically affluent nations.

Point well made, Susan.

I wonder if Duxbury has considered producing specialized versions for
private use in foreign countries where salaries are considerably lower
than in the US?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average US salary in
the 1st quarter of 2005 was almost $40,000 per year. This contrasts
with an average Russian salary of $3600 per year.
