Hi,

It is a Maths Chapter which we are transcribing for a college student.

*** Quotation begins:

CHAPTER 6 SUMMATION
Sigma Notation

It is useful to have a short way of writing expressions like 1"power 2" + 2"power 2" + ... + n"power 2". This is done by writing "sigma"r"power 2" which means "the sum of squares of positive integers."

*** End of quote.

Hence my guess of dots "456 234 (sigma) 56 1235 (letter sign r)". If I am correct with the dot representation, how do I achieve this with DBT?

I am also re-posting my other question on setting the embosser to work with A4-size sheets.

We have a Braillo-200 embosser and DBT Version 10.3. The embosser is set to work on 40 characters per line and 25 lines per page.

If we need to emboss on A4-size paper which can hold up to 28 characters per line and 26 lines per sheet, can someone please step me through the process, from preparation of data to embosser set-up, in order to achieve this outcome?

Ben Ong, Could you be more specific about Sigma R? What is the context? Fraternity, physics formula, simple sentence explaining greek letters? Are you typing in English?

Hi Ben, If I'm not mistaken, you use the British Braille Maths Code. So, I consulted one of the small handful of experts here in the U.K. The response is as follows. "Sigma - I assume he is trying to write Greek capital sigma (sum of) followed by a lower limit sign in which case you need 16 (ch) to indicate that the r is the lower limit then 56 (letter sign) then r although I can't quite see what it means mathematically out of context. Capital sigma is ALWAYS either alone or has limits (lower alone or upper and lower). The lower limit needs to be shown as 16, I think." Hope this helps, George Bell. ________________________________ From: <mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [<mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ben Ong Sent: 06 April 2004 02:32 To: <mailto:duxuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>duxuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [duxuser] Sigma Hi, With DBT, how do I achieve a "sigma-r" (sigma symbol and the letter r beside it) and what should the braille representation be?
