Brett, I think that the "Math Kitchen" software you mentioned is really the 
program from MacKichan Software called Scientific Notebook, which we sell at 
Duxbury Systems (smile).

However, there is a relatively new program called InftyReader for performing 
OCR on scanned mathematical material.  There is information on InftyReader at:

  I have not used InftyReader myself.  But one of our DBT beta testers has 
found InftyReader to be very useful.  He has used InftyReader to prepare LaTeX 
files to be translated into Nemeth Code with DBT 10.6.
