This discussion is getting a bit off-topic for this list. However, with the
growing use of XML, including NIMAS files, we all probably going to have
learn to use different tools for text generation and editing.
The fundamental problem is that a WYSIWYG word processor is just not the
best tool to address the issues we've been discussing. Here I will defer to
an excellent write-up by a blind colleague for a description of the tools he
uses and how he prepares documents for his sighted colleagues. See
especially his section titled Document Preparation and Typesetting which
