And it is the same for BANA.

I will try to be clear. "Haddock" offers the choice of 2 contractions:
1) "had" to 456 h (saving 1 character)
2) "dd" to dropped d (saving 1 character)

So either choice saves the same, but choice 2 is considered "simpler" since the contraction is one braille character instead of two.
Thus, we use the dropped d

group signs should generally be preferred to composite contractions
provided their use does not waste space.
