Hi Lynn

Thanks very much for replying. In the end I decided to take the
section numbers out and just leave the page numbers because with the
continued pages, plus any letters, the page numbers were just going to
be too long in the top right corner. I covered myself with a
transcribers note saying that the section numbers were omitted in
braille and to refer to the contents page.

I did in fact e-mail duxbury support in desperation, but in the end,
it was someone else who looked at my file who cracked the problem of
the page indicators appearing on line 1. Somehow reference page
numbers were off so as soon as I turned them on, the problem was
fixed.

Thanks for the bana rule, yes that's what I follow usually. I look in
to the [lec
 code too.

Teri

Hi Teri,
I like your idea of changing the hyphens to decimal points. I'd tell
about this on the Transcriber's Notes page. Do you follow the BANA
rules in "Braille Formats; Principles of Print to Braille
Transcription"? The rule in there says use dashes (3,6 3,6) in place
of
the hyphens and put the continuation letters in front of the second
number. So you'd have 1--5, then 1--a5. See Rule 1 Sec. 13e. It
would
probably be hard to get Duxbury to do this automatically, and the rule
allows for putting the letter in front of the 1st number in this case.
Of course this makes the page number even longer, especially where you
have combined pages. That's why I like the decimals.

Concerning your problems with the new print page indicator showing up
on
the first line sometimes, or no print page number showing at all, I
can't help. Duxbury's [lea] command generally works correctly. I'd
try
Duxbury support on those.

Do you know about the [lec] command for getting the continuation pages
done right? If not, check it out.
Sorry for the delay in replying.

Subject: [duxuser] print page numbers

Hi

I have several queries about a document which I'm transcribing.

In the original file, the print page numbers are listed as for example
1-5 to show the section of the book as well as the page number. So in
my example, print page five is part of section 1. Another example is
3-20 showing that print page 20 is in section 3. My queries are as
follows:

1. I have several pages where I need to hyphenate the page numbers to
join them because of a picture on the facing page. This makes the
already hyphenated numbers in the document a little confusing. I want
to change the existing hyphen between the numbers to something else
and
thought of using a period, so the numbers on pages where I need to
join
them would look like this: 1.4-5. Has anyone else struck this before
and how did you deal with it. Personally I think their page numbering
system is a little weird and it would be much simpler if just the page
number was included rather than including the section as well. I hope
I've explained this clearly enough.

2. How do I stop the ruller used for the print page indicator
appearing
on line 1 of a page? I have the print page code and it's relevant
number as the very first thing on the page but have the print page
indicator appearing on line 1 in a couple of cases. I have the latest
version of dbt.

3. I suspect my next query has something to do with the odd numbering
system used in the file. I've discovered that I'm not always getting
a
print page number in the top right of my page. I'm guessing this is
because the page number is too long or something. I don't have a
running header so the first line of text should be able to adjust to
fit
the page number in the top right corner. How do I correct this. I'm
tempted to just take out the section numbers and leave the print page
number alone there. The other thing that is affected is the a or b
etc
placed before a page number if it continues to a new braille page.

If I did take out the section numbers and make this change, should I
include a transcribers note to that effect or is this sort of change
ok
to just go ahead with. My thought would be to include a note because
if
a sighted teacher is helping the braille reader, this would alert the
braille reader to the change and perhaps avoid confusion all round.
What do other list members think?
