Sarah,

I don't use any special template to create primary pages in a document. I open
a new document using whatever template I normally use, and insert the following
code at the beginning of the file:

[pv~p]

This tells DBTW to keep the value of the current page (usually 1) and prefix
each following page number with the letter p. If the document has a title
page, I also precede this code with:

[svpfd2]

This code sets the first displayable page number to 2, which means that the
title page will have no page number.

Just before the first non-preliminary page, I insert the code

[pv1~]

This code sets the page value back to 1 and discontinues the preliminary page
prefix. If my document has a title page, I precede this code with:

[svpfd1]

This tells DBTW to begin displaying page numbers at page 1, and cancels the
effect of the earlier code to start displaying page numbers at 2. Note that if
you didn't use [svpfd2] you won't need to insert this code.

If you do this kind of thing often, you can modify DBTW's Initial style to
include these codes. This will save you from having to enter these codes for
each new document you create. If you go this route, you may want to create a
template with the modified style, and use your new template whenever you create
a document that needs preliminary pages. Please let me know if you want to do
this, and I'll be happy to help you. We should probably do this privately
since it may put everyone else to sleep.

Steve

Subject: [duxuser] templates aand preliminary pages

  Hey all,

I was wondering what templates you used to creat preliminary pages, or how to
create my own. I am starting to get into things that require them (mainly
menues and things with contents pages) and I'm not sure how to separate them
from the actual *content* of the text itself.

Any assistance given would be appreciated. Thank you.
