In DBT 10.4 you can alternatively highlight the group of words, then apply the bold, italic or underline style to that section. And in 10.3 you can precede it with [fts~i] and end it with [fte~i]. Those codes start and end the itallic font, and they take into account the rules concerning using a double underscore before the first word of four or more, vs. individual underscores before 1 to 3 words. But if you know the rules, typing the underscores is the fastest way.
