Hi Tom,
that is true. It might depend on layout of each laptop.
Anyway, in case you want to access the properties to set a shortcut, just
select it on your desktop, and press Alt + Enter. This will open the
Properties panel, where the Shortcut tab is.

what that key is called but let me retry:
Open Properties:
Navigate to your desktop using Win + D.
Locate the shortcut you just created, and press Alt + Enter to open its
Properties.
Assign a Shortcut Key:
In the Properties window, go to the "Shortcut" tab.
In the "Shortcut key" field, press the key you want to use as a shortcut.
Windows will automatically add Ctrl + Alt + to the key you press.
For example, if you press 'A', it will become Ctrl + Alt + A.

Hi Tom,
I'm not sure what people call this feature. It is usually the right
click on the mou se to bring up a menu but I know the mouse is useless in
this case. So, this can be reproduced once you select the icon by
pressing the button on the left side of the right control key. That
control key is the last on the bottom row in the main cluster of keys
(where letters are). It differs if you are using a laptop, but it should
be just before hitting the arrow keys.
I hope that makes sense.

Hi Dominique,
open the context menu of the shortcut that's on your desktop and go to
Properties. There is a tab called "Shortcut", where you can assign one
to start JAWS.
Let me know if you don't have a shortcut created yet.

Hi Thom, the extra letters are a result of my poor addiction meaningless. As
far as I am aware the application key brings up the context menu but I could
be wrong about this. Maybe some of our more informed members would clarify
for you
