Level 1 Smart Speaker Course (Alexa)
Date: 27th September
Time: 2:30pm - 3:45pm
Description: In this course we explore the range of Amazon Echo smart
speakers available and how they can be used to help people who are blind or
partially sighted. We cover creating timers, reminders, setting alarms,
shopping lists, and initiating information searches by speaking to your
device.
Level 2 Smart Speaker Course (Alexa)
Date: 26th September
Time: 2:30pm - 3:45pm
Description: In this Level 2 Smart Speaker course we explore various
features available on Amazon Echo smart speakers and how they can be used to
help people who are blind or partially sighted. We cover how to use whisper
mode and brief mode on a smart speaker, finding and using step-by-step
recipes, creating, accessing, and sharing lists including shopping lists. We
also cover how to link a music service, playing podcasts/music, and linking
an audiobook service.
Level 3 Smart Speaker Course (Alexa)
Date: 17th October
Time: 2:30pm - 3:45pm
Description: In this Level 3 Smart Speaker course, we explore further
features available on the Amazon Echo smart speaker and how they can be used
to help people who are blind or partially sighted. We cover how to change
the Alexa voice and speech rate, make Alexa-to-Alexa calls and text
messaging, use the "Drop-In" feature, demonstrate how smart home devices,
such as lights, thermostats, video doorbells and plugs, may be used with
Alexa, as well as the purpose and benefit of Alexa Routines. We also
highlight some of the features of the MyNCBI Alexa skill.
Typing Tutor and Keyboard Skills Course
Date: 10th October - 21st November (6 Sessions)
Time: 2.30pm - 4pm
Description: the Typing Tutor and Keyboard Skills Course is for anyone who
would like to learn how to Touch Type. This absolute beginner's course
includes step by step, instructor-led training on the QWERTY keyboard,
ergonomics and correct posture, and achieving typing accuracy and fluency.
Each student will be provided with audio practice files throughout the
training course and have the ability to touch type by the end of the
training.
This course will take place over six Mondays from 2.30pm to 4pm - October
10th, 17th and 24th (break for one week owing to Bank Holiday on 31st
October) and November 7th, 14th and 21st.
