IIRC, fees were $2 per hour our fish year and then crept up over time to
$4, $6 and finally $8 or $10. A significant portion of those fees was to
supplement the bus service A&M was expanding during our stay there.
When we first got there, there were more undergrad students living on
campus than off - over 2,000 in the quad, another 2,000 in the Kruger-Dunn
complex when that 4plex was finished. and another 2000+ up at Northgate.
As enrollment exploded and off-campus housing started being built. The
dinky, used-school bus system we had needed to be upgraded and one of the
ways they did that with the fees. Now the fees are no longer called by the
simple term "building use fees", but there are a plethora of fees, which,
when added up, is way more than tuition.
When I got off active duty in '88 and went back to school at (shudder) tu,
the fees were over $25. By the time I left, the fees were over $50 No
clue what the fees are now.

I found a receipt for my last semester, fall of 77, under $300 bucks, I
lived off campus.
As a comparison, the last year of my youngest daughter’s undergrad at
Brandeis U. in Boston, 2014-15, was $56K.
Not including airfares… All my daughters’ graduate degrees were on them!
TAMU is still a bargain!
And TAMU education enabled me to live this life. And no college debts. God
bless TAMU!
