 (apologies for the two duplicates; my bad for using the "back" button of
 W+ and there is no way to delete attached files..)

 The media prefs look different from usual with the 'patched' driver
 indeed; and they remain odd-looking even after an extra media_server
 restart. I tried the Speaker sliders and they are functional when dragged
 though:

 I guess the extra tracing will give more info too.
