I have a question about this BIRD proposal.

In all the discussions on this topic, I can't remember
if we ever addressed the boundary conditions of the
power terminals of the [External Model] keyword. As
far as I remember, with all this ideal isolation unity
amplifier discussions we were only talking about the
data path.

I wonder if we should also say something about the power
terminals. I can see two scenarios.

When the EDA tool provides an internal power source, it is
most likely an ideal source with a zero Ohm impedance.
But what happens if the power terminals of the [External
Model] is brought out to the pin through the package model?
That is not going to be anything like a zero Ohm ideal source.

Now what is the Touchstone model maker supposed to do when
they are making an S-parameter model that is also connected
to the power terminals of [External Circuit]?

Comments, suggestions welcome...

Thanks,

Arpad

Hello everyone,

This is to inform all of you that a new BIRD draft has been
posted on the ATM website on the topic of analog model
boundaries.

http://www.vhdl.org/pub/ibis/macromodel_wip/archive/20120423/arpadmuranyi/Analog%20Model%20Boundary%20Definition%20BIRD%20draft%201/AnalogBoundary_BIRD_draft1.pdf

This BIRD draft has been introduced in the last ATM
teleconference (yesterday), and I would like to
solicit for comments and suggestions on it from all
of you.

Thanks in advance,

Arpad
