I hope you are all well and sane! I am writing to you on behalf of the East and
Middle-West Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalitions to see if your members would be
interested in participating in EV-WATTS<https://www.energetics.com/evwatts>, a
U.S. Department of Energy funded project that aims to collect plug-in electric
vehicle (PEV) and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) data across a
variety of vehicle applications, geographic areas, and use cases.
With the increase in vehicle electrification, there is a need for an
up-to-date, publicly available national dataset to understand end user charging
and driving patterns as well as vehicle and infrastructure performance. To
support this important effort, Clean Cities Coalitions in nine states –
including Tennessee – have entered into a partnership with Energetics, a
full-service technology and management consulting firm whom we know quite well,
on its EV-WATTS data collection project. Project partners in Virginia, Ohio,
New York, Colorado, South Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Missouri have already
begun to secure data sharing agreements from data partners (e.g., local
governments, utilities, driver groups, etc.) in their respective jurisdictions;
we would really love to capture data from both the KEVA and DEC member groups
to inform this national dataset.
Attached to this email is a one-pager on the project, an example data analysis
report, as well as a blank data sharing agreement. We note that, should y’all
agree to become a data partner on this project, any data shared will be
anonymized for purposes of inclusion in the full aggregated datasets and
reported results. You would also receive individualized data analysis to
compare your data with data submitted by other EV-WATTS data partners to inform
areas of performance. Through EV-WATTS, KEVA and DEC can contribute to the
aggregated database that will be made available for use by government agencies,
the research community, local planners, and industry to advance vehicle
electrification efforts.
What’s the skinny? You’d sign the agreement and end up having a Geotab
small-form telematics device installed on your car using the OBD II port. We’d
need to install all of the units for each of your groups at one time – we’d
plan a time and would all meet at one location to have the units professionally
installed by someone on the project who would fly to Knoxville or Chattanooga.
We are happy to schedule a call to discuss the data partnership agreement and
any questions that you may have on this project, and include Energetics if you
all desired such (as they can answer specific questions on the data partnership
agreement or the individualized data analysis offerings better than we can).
Eric, Jim – can you talk to your groups and see who would be interested in
supporting the project, and can respond to me and all that are in the CC list
at your first opportunity?
One other point – we need at least 15 vehicles in each group before Energetics
will come to do the install. This seems less of an issue for KEVA, and might be
a larger issue for DEC. Either of you are welcome to call me as you’d like too,
to discuss!
