Jonathan, my thought is they are going after the guys paying $100k for a
Ford Raptor, those off road guys, they want to keep it nitch so that it
doesn't vulture any sales from a future Silverado/Nikola actual every man's
truck that will be coming out who knows when.
I also think they have to go low volume cause LG just doesn't have the
battery production capacity! GM/LG needs to invest heavily in more battery
production!
Bigger issue I have is that I found out it is a 200kwh battery, but they
are only getting 350+ range. 200Kwh in say their Chevy Bolt which has an
efficiency of ~300 watts a mile, would mean you could get 650+ miles on
that battery!!!
So that tells me, as we could guess, the Hummer is horribly inefficient.

costs over $100k. I think they saw the larger EV buys that Tesla Model X
and S people are laying out (that are in the $50-100k range) and believe
that will translate into (old and relatively aesthetically uninteresting)
Hummer buys. I guess we will see!

Thanks for setting this up. It was a lot of fun!
After we finished the Zoom call, I went to the Tesla website to
double-check the specs on the Cybertruck (I should have done that while we
were meeting). Turns out the Cybertruck is an even better bargain relative
to the Hummer than I thought!
The highest level spec of the Cybertruck is the three-motor version and
should be coming out about the same time as the Hummer. It is going to be
just as powerful (if not more so), faster 0-60, and will have a range of
more than 500 miles (compared to the Hummer's 350 miles). And, most
significantly, the Cybertruck will cost $70,000. That is more than $40,000
LESS than the Hummer!!!
All of this just underscores how far ahead Tesla is in terms of efficiency
and cost relative to the legacy automakers. When I said the Hummer will
have an uphill climb, I didn't realize just how steep of a climb it
actually is!
