Mine had to take a trip to the service center. They replaced it.

I can report that the sound - even though generally good up till now - has
improved out of sight since the Pair were updated? Or perhaps it’s just the
reinstall, either way I encourage you to check to see that your Homepod has
the latest firmware, you can do this through the Home App, select Rooms,
select the room your Homepod is in and then select the device, swiping up to
select “Open Controls”.
