Gautam,
I'm forwarding this to the NEACT list for their input.

You might clarify your target audience for us, re: the objectives of the
course.
Do you want your course to be issues-related, non-technical and no math, or a
more traditional overview (an introductory or "prep-course") with "toned-down"
chemical calculations?

Here are a few suggestions.

Issues-related:
Chemistry in Context; Applying Chemistry to Society; ACS. Similar to the HS
ChemComm text organization.
Chemistry Fundamental; An Environmental Perspective; Buell & Girard

A little more rigorous and traditional; perhaps for students who HAVE had a HS
college-prep chemistry course:
Conceptual Chemistry; Suchocki
Introductory Chemistry; An Active Learning Approach; Cracolice & Peters

Also check out author Julia Burdge. I've heard very good things about the
readability of her texts. I don't know if she has a text along your needs but
it's worth investigating.
Best,
W. Cary Kilner, Ph.D.

Subject: Textbook Recommendation

Hope this email finds everyone well as we gear up for the beginning of the
academic year. I am teaching a Chemistry for the Citizen course for non-science
majors who will take it as a general education requirement and would greatly
appreciate any recommendations you may have regarding textbook (or ANY other
materials). My email address is gautamb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx THANKS!
