Hello Gautam,
I have used Chemistry for Changing Times long time back and the primary author,
John Hill is an old friend. As Cary said, the book has been around for close
to 40 years.
Chemistry in Context is another excellent book which I have been using for the
past several years for such a course. It is an ACS project developed by a group
of educators, initially led by Truman Schwartz of Macalester College. Cathy
Middlecamp of UW-Madison is the lead author of the past three editions and it
is on the 8th edition.
Good luck.

Gautam,
Here are two more:
Chemistry for Changing Times -- has intro to chem chapters followed by
chem-related societal-issues chapters.
A "warhorse' -- 12th edition, so it certainly has longevity.
CHEM -- Centgage produced, I see no author -- looks interesting.
The chapters on intro to chem are interweaved with chapters on the societal
issues.
Best,
Cary K.

Hope this email finds everyone well as we gear up for the beginning of the
academic year. I am teaching a Chemistry for the Citizen course for non-science
majors who will take it as a general education requirement and would greatly
appreciate any recommendations you may have regarding textbook (or ANY other
materials). My email address is
