Honestly, I never print anything at all. Print isn't accessible, so I do
everything digital. I even scan my snail-mail (the few bits I get that
aren't total junk) so I can have them in digital format. I think if I ever
ended up in some rare situation where I needed to, I would just find a
Kinko's or something like that. But since no one has responded, I figured
I'd at least give it a shot. Hope it helps. :)
So the first thing I did was hit the web. Searching for "raspberry pi
compatible printers" led to many, many forum posts asking this exact
question. From the 2 or 3 I read, it sounds like the Pi needs a component
called "cups" to find and use printers. In terms of brands, both sites had
people posting that HP is the way to go; apparently, Canon and Epson
usually work too, but HP supports Linux well. Obviously whatever brand you
choose will need to be compatible with not only Linux, but ARM processors;
one guy said "cups" isn't compatible with ARM, but others say they got it
working so that's probably not the case. Anyway, that's kind of all I know
on the subject, but hopefully it's enough to at least get you on the right
track.
